Sanatani Kali Mandir

About the Goddess

About the Bhavatarini (the Liberator/Savour) Maa:The Pratima is inspired by the deity at the Dakshineswar Kali Mandir, which was consecrated and opened on May 31, 1855, by Rani Rashmoni on the banks of the Hooghly River in Kolkata. The temple is deeply revered throughout the world and holds special significance for Bengalis due to its association with Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa’s spiritual awakening and as a source of inspiration for Swami Vivekananda.

Dakshina Kalika is widely revered as the "Benevolent Mother of Bengal". She is the most popular form of Goddess Kali worshipped in the state, recognized for her protective and compassionate nature rather than just her fierce attributes.

As a homage to the legacy of the Dakshineswar Mandir, our Pratima will be made from the same type of stone (koshtipatthar) from India and carved to the same dimensions and likeness as the 170-year-old representation of the deity in Kolkata. It is currently estimated to weigh approximately 200 kg (440 lbs) and stand just under 4 feet in height. We will keep you posted as more details become available.
